Job Title: RN Float Pool Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty:
Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours
per Shift: 12 Experience: One year preferred License: State RN
license or RN license from a participating state in the National
Licensure Compact Certifications: American Heart Association Basic
Life Support (BLS) - Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
(ACLS) - Required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) Certification - Required
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification - Required Trauma Nursing
Core Course (TNCC) Certification - Required Must-Have: Nursing
skills and knowledge base specific to specialty; ability to float
as required. Description: Assess patients' physical, psychosocial,
cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, and
review of medical records and clinical data. Evaluate patients'
responses and intervene to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Develop
and implement patient plans of care and observe outcomes in
accordance with nursing standards in collaboration with the
interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate competency in a variety of
therapeutic and diagnostic interventions including but not limited
to IVs, incision/wound care, medication administration,
catheterization, and specimen collections. Promote, advocate, and
collaborate to protect the health, safety, and rights of each
patient. Provide patient and family education through assessment of
learning readiness, needs, and abilities. Provide teaching and
evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching. Recognize the patient
or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate and
coordinated care based on respect for preferences, values, and
needs. Deliver relationship-based care with respect for cultural
differences and diversity. Delegate to non-RN personnel in
accordance with state nursing board and hospital policy.
Effectively use time, personnel, equipment, and supplies to provide
high-quality, cost-effective patient care. Serve as a professional
role model for all staff, demonstrating ethical, legal, and
professional nursing processes. Manage resources and patient flow
by matching nursing competencies with individualized patient and
unit needs. Utilize standards of care, hospital policies and
procedures, and regulatory guidelines to guide practice. Function
effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering
open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to
achieve quality patient care. Precept and mentor new staff or
nursing students as needed. Seek out learning opportunities and
continuing education. Maintain professional records that provide
evidence of competency and lifelong learning. Evaluate personal
integrity and nursing practice in relation to professional practice
standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and
regulations. Take action to achieve goals identified during the
evaluation process. Demonstrate a commitment to the organization
through ongoing participation in relevant meetings. Understand the
value of measurement and the importance of continuous quality
improvement data. Use quality measures to improve performance and
accountability for patient outcomes, experiences, and safe delivery
of care. Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based
practice, and research activities. Use current healthcare research
findings and other evidence to expand clinical knowledge, enhance
role performance, and increase knowledge of professional
issues.
