Job Description:

Job ID: 650235BR
Date posted: Oct. 12, 2023
Program: CPS

Description:Lockheed Martin is leading the way in hypersonic missile development and we want you to be a part of it! We are creating the first hypersonic boost/glide system for the US Army and Navy here on the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, and our NGC-SW Integrated Product Team (IPT) is responsible for the algorithms and software that control it. Our group includes the Navigation, Guidance, and Control (NG&C or GN&C) subsystem, which flies the missile and glide body, and the embedded Flight Software (FSW) which hosts the NG&C algorithms and provides health, status, and sequencing for the entire system. Additionally, we develop and maintain the Flight Software testbeds (HILs or HWILs) which provide complete hardware integration testing with feedback and flight simulation to test the NG&C algorithms and flight software. Our deputy release managers support the integrated release managers, or mission thread leads, to bring together the architecture, requirements, design, testing, and most importantly, the plan for the NG&C and software products. This is a crucial role combining a systems-thinking mindset with solid problem-solving and planning skills. If building cutting-edge hypersonic systems sounds exciting to you and you are looking to expand your systems engineering and leadership skills then we hope you will consider applying.

We are looking for an engineer with a proven technical background in Systems, GN&C, or Software who wants to further their systems engineering abilities; applying a systems thinking mindset to translate customer needs into an implementable solution. Our Requirements and Design Lead will partner with one of our Release Managers to pull together a singular NGC-SW thread for an upcoming flight test or system delivery. This role is critical to ensure all aspects, from customer use-cases to test requirements, are coordinated across stakeholders and incorporated into the long-term plan. We will be especially dependent on our deputies when transition from strictly planning into execution. At that time our deputies will be responsible for leading integration and development activities in addition to helping the Release Manager respond to changing requests and new discoveries.

Key responsibilities:

Support the Integrated Release Manager in creating a cohesive flight test roadmap for NG&C, Flight Software, and Testbeds from early design through post-flight analysis
Support the IPT leadership in translating the top-level NGC-SW roadmap into a detailed implementation pan
Head up the software development and test efforts, aligning the teams to the execution roadmap
Lead gap analyses, trades studies, and investigations as needed to support the Integrated Release Manager
Additional responsibilities

Develop sufficient knowledge of the NGC-SW system and the Integrated Release Manager role to represent them at program-level, decisional forums
Foster relationships and manage forums to ensure the NGC-SW roadmap aligns with current objectives and milestones
Support Systems Engineering and Architects in decomposing the larger system solution into the NGC-SW thread, including model-based system designs
Work with integration and test organizations to ensure NGC-SW is adequately tested at all levels of integration
Set up business rhythms and processes to ensure the design solution remains current and any gaps or unknowns are discovered quickly
Support the IPT to prepare for and present at program reviews, including major design reviews, manufacturing reviews, test reviews, and post-test analysis
Basic Qualifications:
Solid technical engineering background in aerospace, software, systems or similar
Experience developing software or GN&C algorithms/models in a company setting
Familiar with systems engineering concepts and processes
A passion to challenge and grow yourself and others
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
Desired Skills:
Experience heading up a team (formal or informal) to accomplish a goal
Desire to build collaborative teams to solve problems
Demonstrated understanding and application of Systems Engineering and a Systems Thinking mindset
Experience working with groups and organizations outside of your immediate product area
Ability to manage multiple, often-competing requests, effectively prioritizing the most urgent ones
Ability to look across the entire system to identify potential impacts of a change
Ability to plan out and accomplish tasks with minimal oversight and support
Passion to apply creative problem solving and creative thinking to accomplish what seems impossible
Excellent presentation and written communication skills
Active DOD Secret clearance
